Sketches

Every great design starts with a great sketch. We use sketches to ensure we understand what our customers need.  This reduces confusion and answers many questions before we order material and start to fabricate. We have made thousands of custom parts and just a few of those are popular enough to include on our website as stock items.

Stainless vs. Steel

"Stainless steel is defined as a metal that has a minimum of 10.5% chromium added.  Carbon steel is a little more difficult to define because there are a broad range of metals that fall under this category.  But if you walked into a sheet metal shop and asked for something to be made out of regular steel you will get what is called mild steel which has a carbon content that is less than 0.15%.  Mild steel can also contain small amounts of other metal such as nickel, chromium, aluminum and others but it is the carbon content that defines it as a mild steel.

Mild steel has a reasonable strength and hardness; it is easier to weld than stainless, and it is cheaper.  However; stainless steel offers several advantages in terms of strength and hardness. It also doesn’t rust, corrode or react as easily as mild steel."  -quoted from a 428Roasters blog

We manufacture most of our parts in Stainless Steel because of the quality finish. We also like it because it can be refinished indefinitely and doesn't go thru the process of electro-plating. Because of Air Quality Control standards electro-plating has become a very expensive process.  Stainless can be refinished in Polished Brass, Antique Bronze etc and we complete many requests for plated finishes.

Our Ferrous parts are made of steel and plated because the material or shaping of material is not available in stainless.  If you have questions about what material to use, please don't hesitate to send an email or give us a call.
